* Locations refer to the township, range, section land division
system used in the American West. A township and range is a 36 square mile block
measuring six sections east to west and six sections north to south. A section of
land contains 640 acres (249 Ha). Sections are numbered 1 through 6 from east to
west along the top tier of sections. They are numbered from 7 through 12 on the next
tier of sections to the south and so on. Section 36 is the southeastern-most section
in any township and range.
The first number refers to the township. The second number refers to the
range. The third number is the section within each 36 square miles township and
range block. The final numbers refer to the location of the well from which the
transmissivity value was determined within the section. Quarters of a section are by
convention: 1 is the northwest quarter of the section, 2 is the northeast, 3 is the
southwest and 4 is the southeast. In the case of the first location in this table,
the location would be read as the Southwest One-Quarter of the Southwest One-Quarter of
the Southwest One-Quarter of Section 9, Township 10 South, Range 24 East. A quarter
section is 160 acres (64.75 Ha). A quarter-quarter section is 40 acres (16.18
Ha) and so on.
